Jon Read was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. From a young age he has been obsessed with comic books, cult films, sci-fi, and mythology/religion. His work has strong narrative aspect to it. Read is currently developing a Dark Ride, which will take the viewer through the painting in a self powered cart in the style of Walt Disney’s “It’s a small world” ride. He is making this to work in a larger scope and will combine his skill in art, music and technical ability learned by working as a contemporary art installer. Read has as worked has a production artist, making large scale Catholic statues/icons and shrines, giving him formal training in religious art. He is also influenced by visionary folk art and neo-expressionism. Jon Read is also known for his music which he plays under the name The Wiggins. In his music he creates a what has been called a “End of Times” sound that fuses rockabilly guitar riffs, punk rock overdrive and heavy hip-hop beats. In addition, Read has also work as concept artist for various TV and film projects. Jon Read currently lives in Houston TX and works as the operations manager at Diverseworks Artspace. |
